Before you let your Mac yell at you...
FAQ
Share what you're working on, start a focus session, and Nemesis will interrupt you via audio and an on-screen warning if you get distracted.
What is Nemesis?
Nemesis is a macOS menu bar app that helps you stay focused. You tell it what you are working on, start a focus session, and it calls you out if you drift into distractions.
How does it work?
During a focus session, Nemesis looks at the app, window, and browser context you are using. If it recognizes that your activity no longer aligns with your stated goal, it interrupts with an audio roast and an on-screen warning.
When is Nemesis monitoring me?
Only during a focus session you start. Outside of focus sessions, Nemesis is inactive and does not see anything you're doing.
What counts as a distraction?
Nemesis checks obvious traps like social feeds, video sites, shopping, news, and other off-task windows against the mission you set. It is meant to catch clear distractions, not micromanage every click.
Why does it need Accessibility permission?
Accessibility lets Nemesis read the active app, window title, and browser URL during focus sessions. That helps it tell work from distraction.
Why does it need Screen Recording permission?
Some apps do not provide enough context from the window title alone. Screen Recording lets Nemesis check what is on screen when it needs more context, and only during active focus sessions.
Does Nemesis save my data?
Nemesis does not save your focus data on Nemesis servers. Release builds do not keep a server archive of screenshots, URLs, goals, or roast text. You can also turn Nemesis off anytime by ending the focus session.
Can Nemesis close distracting tabs or apps?
Nemesis can ask for macOS Automation permission for optional close actions. You stay in control of whether to use those actions.
What does Nemesis cost?
Nemesis has a 3-day free trial, then costs $12.99/month. You can cancel anytime through Polar.
How do I manage my subscription?
Use the Polar customer portal to cancel, update your payment method, or download invoices.
What Mac do I need?
Nemesis requires macOS 14 or later.
